Pregnant and DENIED Medicaid?
Help!
My husband and I just found out that we are having a baby!
But
I’ve been on the phone all this morning trying to figure out how to get my self on health insurance so I get some help with everything.
We live in Idaho, and the Idaho financial requirements for 3 people, one pregnant lady equals TWO people, is $1,951.00 GROSS sales a MONTH!
I couldn’t believe it!
So I asked the lady if she could refer me to some other place that could help me and she said no.
I tried to get on another insurance, and they will not help me because I am all pregnant!
Does anyone have a plan for me?
Does anyone have any information about Idaho middle class pregnant women?
I mean, we barley bring in $2,900.00 GROSS monthly sales.
(If that’s even considered “middle class.)
Freakin’ out here.
Thanks for reading!

Now you know why there are so many SINGLE moms on welfare. Many “middle class” people think there’s a safety net out there. There’s not.
You may have to leave your husband to get help. Or you could try different charities and churches. Maybe they will help. I’m sorry you’ve run into this problem at a time that should be happy for you.
Hang in there and good luck.

I am a bit surprised that your husband doesn’t have some sort of health insurance that you are both covered by already. Unfortunately, your only option is going to be something like COBRA. The middle class always gets screwed.

Try going to a free women’s clinic in your area, sometimes they have programs you can sign up for, and they will see you throughout your pregnancy. Or you can call your local Health Dept and tell them your story and you can go through them to see a dr every month. Those were my options if I was denied Medicaid…fortunately I am with the father but we are not married so it was just based on my income and I think I was actually over the limit (barely) but still got excepted.
I live in Florida…Good Luck to you!

Do either of you have insurance through your job? Most group plans I’ve seen allow preexisting conditions like this. Open enrollment should be soon so if you previously weren’t buying insurance this way, you could elect to do so now so your coverage would start on 1/01/09.
Otherwise, hospitals usually have discounts for the uninsured and you can set up a financing plan with them.

Just in case you can’t get insurance in time for the delivery:
I’m no expert, but could you get prenatal work done at a county health clinic? I know it’s not ideal, but they would have reduced prices. As for the delivery, midwives can come and do home births at much cheaper prices than hospital deliveries. They are also proven to be similarly as safe as hospital births because your likely hood of a C-section is reduced. Check to see if you can do home births in Idaho by calling your local midwives birthing centers or ob/gyn clinics.

If you own a business or something and you have sales, you should actually talk to them about the profit. That is sales less all business related expenses.
If you have $2,900 in income (profit) per month, then just save some money every month and you’ll be able to afford to pay for the delivery. They aren’t that expensive in most cases.
Further, don’t freak out! Pregnancy is a very natural thing – and almost all of them go totally smoothly if you take your vitamins, take care of yourself, don’t smoke or drink, and follow your doctor’s instructions. Also, if you buy into a private insurance plan now – even a very inexpensive one – the baby will be covered right away.
As for prenatal care, you should be able to find a low cost clinic for visits. Most pregnancies don’t require that many. You could try a service like maternity advantage too. They might be able to help you get a discount from the hospital. Just buying a regular insurance policy now will help with that too. They may deny payment, but you’ll get the insurance discount on your bill.
A midwife is a viable option for delivery too though you need to see a doctor prenatally at least a few times.
Call around to some insurance agencies to get prices. If you’re otherwise in good health – no problem & congratulations!

Wic will be able to help you with some things. Congratulations and I wish you serenity
Also you might want to look into using a midwife. It is an alternative.

This is frustrating. I always heard pregnant people cant get denied medicaid. Well I looked it up and they are so wrong. I have health insurance through work, so I was not personally looking for myself, more out of curiosity. When I saw the amount of money you have to make under, I was shocked. There is no way anyone could even live on that little of money, is there?! I guess you can be very grateful that you make over 1000 more a month. I would suggest getting a job with a company that has a good insurance policy. That way you can at least be covered while pregnant. Also planned parenthood, or a women’s free clinic in your area. Just try not to stress too much about it! You will find something soon, you just have to hang in there and make some phone calls.

Wow that really does ****. Idaho is so LOW even Ohio is up to 200% of the federal poverty level. You may want to check with the local health care clinics, they should be able to help you or at least refer you to someone who can. Good luck. And I am sorry you have to stress over this while you are pregnant, it’s not fair to you or your child.
